TeamViewer is a free tool that makes it
incredibly easy to set and use a VPN connection; a Virtual Private
Network that lets you take complete control of another PC from your own
computer, whether they're separated by a soda can or a continent (and as
long as both machines are running TeamViewer). It enables two-way
connections in which users can flip control back and forth. TeamViewer
also lets you hold virtual meetings with multiple participants (again,
they all must have TeamViewer installed). With a name like TeamViewer,
you'd expect it to be an enterprise-ready tool, and you'd be right:
TeamViewer's robust simplicity is what happens when multiple users of
vastly different skills need to use software. After a while, the bugs
get squashed pretty firmly. But TeamViewer is free to non-commercial
users. That means you can use it to access your work and home PCs
remotely, of course. But you can also install it on your mom's PC (for
example) and provide tech support from home.

The look and layout of iTunes 10 is
essentially identical to that of iTunes 9, with just a couple of
noticeable differences. The first is that Apple has updated its logo for
iTunes. Rather than the old-school music note-over-CD icon, you'll see a
much more applike image. Still, the company hasn't figured out how to
more broadly represent the jukebox's multimedia functionality: there's
still just a music note.
There's also been a slight change to the source menu that runs as a column down the left side. The bright blue icons representing the various submenus have been changed to gray--an odd change in our eyes as it makes them stand out even less, which doesn't make a ton of sense for menu options. That said, they still offer quick access to your media library, the iTunes Store, Genius features, and playlists. Once a selection is chosen in the source menu, all the relevant content spills out into the large main window, where it can be organized and sorted using an arsenal of sophisticated, spreadsheet-like options or switched into a Cover Flow view that hearkens back to the days of flipping through record crates.

Sweet Home 3D offers users a chance to see a remodeled room or a brand new home before a single nail has been driven. With a fairly simple premise and impressive results, this slightly flawed program is certainly something to get the imagination going.
The program's interface is very easy to use. The left side of the screen contains a file tree for every room in the house, and clicking on each room presents a list of all appropriate furniture you can drag into the adjacent box. The area is a grid with measurements corresponding to room size. Below the file tree is a space for each item in the room and its approximate size. At the bottom of the screen is a small box that provides the 3D view. Designing a room is very simple. By dragging furniture into the grid and positioning it as you envision your redesigned room, a clear picture appears below, providing an impression of space that two-dimensional sketches cannot. In addition, there is an exciting Virtual Visit option that lets you walk through your home and its rooms.

Two years after Trend Micro's big consumer
suite overhaul, Titanium continues to improve. This year, there's a big
change to which features are available in the different suites to make
the suite structure easier to understand.
Trend Micro Titanium Maximum Security 2013 sports the same rapid-fire installation it's had for a few years. Once you've completed downloading the installer, the entire process is over in less than a minute. There's one screen where you're asked to fill in an e-mail address before you can run Titanium Maximum Security, but that's the extent of the registration hoops that are required. Although a reboot isn't mandatory, the program seems to run better after one.
You can also disable your contributions to the Smart Protection Network, Trend Micro's behavioral detection net, during installation. Doing so won't make you less safe. It will only prevent your data from becoming part of Trend Micro's analyses

Prior to Windows 8,
Windows Defender featured antispyware capabilities. It included a
number of real-time security agents that monitored several common areas
of Windows for changes which may be caused by spyware. It also included
the ability to easily remove installed ActiveX software. Also integrated was support for Microsoft SpyNet
that allows users to report to Microsoft what they consider to be
spyware, and what applications and device drivers they allow to be
installed on their system. In Windows 8, functionality has increased to offer antivirus protection as well. Windows Defender in Windows 8 resembles Microsoft Security Essentials and uses the same virus definitions

Folder Guard is a is a powerful computer security software tool that you
can use to hide your private files and folders from other users of your
computer, lock folders and files with passwords, restrict access to
Control Panel, protect system files from damage (intentional or not),
and to control access to other Windows resources.
There’s a second way to guard your files though.
Folder Guard comes with a file explorer right in the main window, so
it’s enough to browse to your folder and right click it for instant
protection.
In addition, you can change its attributes and make it read-only, provide full access or restrict access entirely unless you say otherwise.
In case there’s an accident and you lose your password, and we all know that such accidents happen every once in a while, don’t worry. Folder Guard gives you the option to create an emergency recovery app that could be copied on a CD or on a USB flash drive to let you reset the password in a second.

PhotoScape is a free image editor that is designed to be fun and easy to use. It not only resizes, edits, and tweaks your digital snapshots and other image files but also creates slideshows and animated GIFs, captures screenshots, combines and splits images, and more. PhotoScape can do lots of fun things to your pictures, and its modules, circular feature selector, and video tutorials take care of the "easy" part.
We mentioned PhotoScape's unique, circular module selector, which duplicates and adds to the features on the program's toolbar, except the first tab, PhotoScape, which is the home screen (though all the tools are available on the toolbar via the toolbar menu). Another unique and interesting feature displays a photo grabbed from Flickr. You can click to change the image or turn the feature off. The Viewer tool's tree view and thumbnails helped us make quick work of finding and loading our images; the tree view persists in the upper left corner, too, when you move on to PhotoScape's various features, starting with the Editor. The Editor collects the most frequently needed editing tools in a console, but the compact view hides a plethora of options; for instance, the Filter menu has 25 items, and nine of those items have submenus. The Editor tools can do everything from adding objects to removing moles: we had quite a laugh when the random wallpaper image we opened turned out to be screen legend Anne Francis and her famous mole! But we could also paint, draw, stamp, and make mosaics out of our images.
